If anyone can get you singing, opera star Lesley Garrett can.

She proves it time and time again. And nowhere more so than when she came to Huddersfield to sing with Honley Male Voice Choir and sent everyone home – singing.

The audience and the choir had such a good time that the Honley men just had to ask her back. And she said yes.

So now, the choir is keen to give a chance to anyone who wants to sing alongside this superstar soprano.

They are recruiting new male singers and the Lesley effect is already working.

Since Christmas, six men have joined the choir after hearing that the international star will be on stage with the choir in Huddersfield again this spring.

And the choir can still accommodate more singers. Posters carrying a picture of the singer and the message “Sing with Lesley” should help them recruit even more.

Lesley will appear on stage with Honley Male Voice Choir at Huddersfield Town Hall on Saturday, May 31.

There’s still time to join them and the first step is to turn up for a recruitment evening on Tuesday, February 4 (7.30pm) at the choir’s rehearsal venue which is Honley Infants and Nursery School.

Musical Director Steven Roberts has already begun to rehearse the programme for the concert.

Choir chairman Roger Wild said: “We’re hoping the poster campaign will bring in some more singers who like the idea of being on stage with Lesley Garrett and joining her in some of the numbers.

“We want them to join now so there is time to learn the music for the concert which is just one of the many exciting events we have planned for the year including a number of other Town Hall concerts.

“We are looking for men of all ages. Previous musical experience is not necessary though would be useful. They don’t need to be able to read music and all we ask is that they have a love of singing.”
