IT IS the kind of show children love.

Music, colour plus a dramatic story with plenty of laughter.

If you have five to 11 year olds in your family then Forest Of Fables at the Lawrence Batley Theatre next weekend (October 17) could be the perfect Saturday treat.

Idolrich is an award winning company which tours internationally with puppetry and animated theatre.

The company is based in Hastings and will be in Huddersfield to stage two Cellar Theatre performances (11am and 2pm) of its new show, Forest Of Fables.

The company has a reputation for its puppetry and use of music and when you add those skills to stories from Aesop’s Fables then you are on to a winner.

The show poses the question of who is the strongest, the North Wind or the Sun. It is a contest to make every leaf shudder.

Meet the loudmouthed lion who has a gnat in his ear, a fox who has his nose to the ground in search of cheese and an ass who totters along in high heels.

As for spider, what else would you expect them to do but knit away and weave their way through the trees?

The company’s creative director is actor/puppeteer/writer Julia McLean.

Julia trained in drama and acting and worked in England before moving to Denmark where she began her own work and international touring.

She later went on to found Theatre Rotto in Cornwall, producing performances for adults and children as well as working in TV and film.

In the early Nineties, the company diverged into puppetry, producing groundbreaking shows in Britain and at International puppet festivals in Austria, Belarus, Holland and Germany.

Julia has worked with award-winning Holmfirth animation company Faulty Optic.

Next Saturday’s performances are part of the continuing Imagine series which aims to get more young people and their families interested in theatre.

Tickets are from the box office on 01484 430528.
