A SHORT film shot by a Holmfirth writer in an old Huddersfield mill will be previewed at a local cinema this month.

Babbling Fools, by writer and director John Coombes, will be shown at the Odeon cinema at Stadium Way, Huddersfield, on February 28 at 8pm.

Filmed at Bates Mill, Queen Street South, it stars Steve Evets, who has appeared in television dramas including Casualty, Heartbeat and Shameless.

His character is a man going through a mid-life crisis.

The mill provides the setting for his mind, a place containing a filing cabinet packed with notebooks that are full of memories, along with photos of his past.

Mr Coombes, who has lived in Holmfirth for more than 40 years, has his own studio in Moldgreen.

He has worked in television for the last 22 years and has written drama for the BBC and ITV.

Some of the scenes were filmed in Holmfirth.

The film also features 10-year-old Billy Neagle, of Marsden, in his first film role.

Most of the crew came from Yorkshire, with the help of media agency Screen Yorkshire.
