Honley Male Voice Choir is again enlisting the aid of Field Marshall Earl Kitchener in its bid to boost membership.

The original 1914 image of Kitchener with his heavy military moustache and pointing finger was used to good effect on a choir poster for a recruitment evening in July with the message, “Honley Male Voice Choir needs YOU.”

Four new members enlisted and the choir committee has decided it is worth using the eye-catching poster again for another recruitment evening on Tuesday,October 22, at Honley Infants and Nursery School on School Street where they rehearse every week.

The event starts at 7.30pm and is part of a continuing campaign to increase the present membership of 65 to more than 80.

Chairman Roger Wild said: “We are looking for men of all ages. Previous experience is not necessary, though would be useful. They don’t need to be able to read music and all we ask is that they have a love of singing.”

As part of their campaign, the choir has sung in the bandstand at Greenhead Park and will be performing next Spring in Beaumont Park.

They will provide pre-match entertainment at Huddersfield Town’s home game against Brighton and Hove Albion on April 19.

New members joining now will be trained in time to take part in the choir’s Huddersfield Town Hall concert at the end of May with international opera star Lesley Garrett whose first appearance with the choir in 2011 was a phenomenal success.
