There's a pair of bright comedy talents lined up for the Lawrence Batley Theatre next week.

Joe Lycett and Michael J Dolan will be in the spotlight as the Huddersfield theatre gears up its monthly Comedy Cellar session on Thursday (July 11).

Former drama student Joe Lycett stormed the comedy scene from the moment he first grabbed a mic.

His first gig was at the Comedy Store in Manchester five years ago and later that year he was a finalist in the City Life North West Comedian of the Year.

The awards kept coming as he won the Chortle Student Award and was runner-up in the Laughing Horse New Act of the Year. In 2010, he appeared as a panellist on Alexander Armstrong’s Saturday night BBC One show Epic Win.

“‘Yeah, that was ridiculous!’ said Joe.

“I was very honoured and excited to get on the BBC at that stage in my career.”

Joe’s performance ensured it was just the first of many TV appearances. Most recently he has landed himself a role in the new ITV Tommy Cooper biopic playing Les Dennis’ old double-act partner Dustin Gee in his first acting debut.

The comedy approach of Michael J Dolan couldn’t be more different.

He’s a self-confessed misanthropist and comic curmudgeon whose caustic insights promise an onslaught of hilarious negativity.

For the last six years Michael has been building a reputation as a highly cerebral comic with the ability to make audiences contemplate the world from a very different angle.

The show starts at 8pm. Tickets are £9 with concessions £7 from the theatre box office on 01484 430528 or online at www.thelbt.org.
