l FOR a taste of Mardi Gras head for Holmfirth next weekend.

On February 20, the nearest Friday to Mardi Gras, one of the world’s most famous carnival events, there will be an evening of Jambalaya, jazz and Mardi Gras at Penny Lane Pantry.

Four musicians from Holmfirth-based jazz group, the New Orleans Wiggle, will be playing at the Pantry which is behind the Parish Church.

With them will be vocalist Carolyn Hilton.

There will be a three course meal in the style of the southern United States and the music will have the same sort of flavour.

The musicians will not only play but will explain something of the traditions behind New Orleans’ style jazz.

And diners might even be invited to join in and sing for their supper!

The event is the latest in a series of events in the Holmfirth Arts Festival calendar which has linked food and music.

Two previous pasta and opera evenings have been sell-outs and now the tempo changes to jazz and carnival.
