A MODERN dance show highly rated by the critics is aiming to tackle everyday issues through movement.

The award-winning UK contemporary dance company Protein Dance are bringing their highly entertaining dance and theatre show, LOL (aka lots of love) to the Lawrence Batley Theatre on February 2.

Protein Dance have been nominated for four prestigious awards for the production, including recognition at the Theatre Awards UK 2011 where they were named the Outstanding Achievement In Dance, as well as the Critics’ Circle National Dance Awards 2011.

LOL appeals to a wide audience. It’s around 75 minutes long, very funny, but poignant too.

Featuring six expert dancers and performers, each play a variety of characters with one thing in common – they’re all looking for love online.

“2011 has been an amazing year for Protein and for our latest show, LOL lots of love,” says Artistic Director Luca Silvestrini.

“We are thrilled to have received so many prestigious awards nominations and we’re delighted to be going back on the road. We hope the spring dates for LOL will reach those who weren’t able to see the show in 2011.”

Luca Silvestrini’s critically acclaimed show balances the promises of an online life and the complexity of real relationships to put love, wanting and connectedness centre stage.

Against a video wall of dozens of screen-gazing individuals, Protein’s six dancers stylishly nail the language of life online, talking and dancing at speed and making straight-to-the-audience confessionals.

Dancers Jon Beney, Patsy Browne-Hope, Valentina Golfieri, Sally Marie, Stuart Waters and Kip Johnson bring the show to Huddersfield following its 2011 success which included a six night run at the Edinburgh Fringe.

And they are a talented bunch. Kip Johnson began dancing at the age of 16, graduated from the Northern School of Contemporary Dance (NSCD) in 2009 with a 1st in choreography and the NSCD Performance Prize.

Sally Marie trained at Central School of Ballet and was nominated for the Outstanding Female Performance in the 2011 Critics Circle National Dance Awards for her performance in LOL.

With video animation by Rachel Davies and original music by Andy Pink, these ingredients conjure a razor-sharp commentary on our Facebook society.

See LOL at the LBT on Thursday, February 2, at 7.30pm.
