Dewsbury will celebrate the festive season in style at its Christmas lights switch on next week.

Live entertainment, music, games and special guests are lined up to help the town kick off the 2014 Christmas season in style before the twinkling lights are illuminated for the first time.

And youngsters can enjoy a free screening of Disney smash-hit Frozen at the New Picture house too — the screening will begin at the New Picture House on South Street starting at 6.15pm. Click here to book your tickets.

Here's everything you need to know about Dewsbury's Christmas lights switch on 2014:

  • What's happening at this year's switch on?
    From live music to Christmas games, special guests and of course that all important countdown, the switch-on promises to deliver a bundle of festive cheer. Crowds will be treated to entertainment from the Pulse Dancers, a Powerhooping performance from HD Hoopers and music from local acts Jamie Sykes and Jade Helliwell. There's also all the fun of the fair with rides, donkey rides, free face painting, as well as a giant snow globe and a stunning fire sculpture by pa-BOOM.

  • Will Santa be there?
    Of course — visitors will be able to visit Santa in his grotto at the switch on.

  • Who's turning on the lights this year?
    Emmerdale star Adam Thomas, who plays Adam Barton and Paul Foster from Pulse Radio are heading to Dewsbury to spread some festive cheer and press that all-important switch-on button.

  • When is the Christmas lights switch on?
    Wednesday November 19.

  • What time does the switch on start?
    The festivities kick off at 3.45pm               

  • Where is the switch on taking place?
    Dewsbury Market Place, Dewsbury.               

  • What time with the Christmas lights be turned on?                   
    After an exciting countdown, the festive lights will be illuminated at 5.30pm.               

  • Do I need to buy tickets?
    No — the family event is free to attend. Just wrap up warm and head into Dewsbury to join the fun!
