Blockbuster movie stars will take over Huddersfield town centre this weekend as Big Screen Weekends return.
John Travolta and Olivia Newton John, Shrek and Simba will burst into action in St George’s Square when dozens of films get rolling for the second outdoor movie weekend, from Friday morning to Sunday evening.
The free event, which will raise money for Kirkwood Hospice, promises to get audiences smiling whatever the weather when the curtains rise on the outdoor cinema which will show 15 films throughout the course of Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
After the success of the year’s first Big Screen Weekend in June it is back with yet more family favourites and cult movies, half of which have been chosen by the public.

Topping the bill are Grease, which will be shown on Friday and Sunday at 7pm and Dirty Dancing on Saturday at the same time.
Shrek, Lion King, Big Hero Six and a Frozen sing-along will also be screened.
Musicians Alexandra Carlos, Monotones and LewRey will also help the festival spirit with live slots from 5pm to 7pm each day.
The weekends have been organised by employment agency Stafflex in conjunction with Food Festivals as a way of marking and celebrating the firm’s 15 years in business.

Poppy Stahelin, marketing assistant at Stafflex, said: “We are really looking forward to the next Big Screen Weekend in August given how successful the June one was.
“We’ve added more films and live music including fabulous covers band Monotones on the Sunday.
“Kirkwood Hospice are doing a terrific job in difficult circumstances and we hope the crowds will come out to support them as much as they supported the Huddersfield Town Foundation (the last event’s chosen charity).
“We’ve also bought a load of games and fun activities plus some face painters are going to be there to keep the little ones entertained. It’s setting up to be a great weekend.”
A host of food and drinks stalls will be on site in the square throughout the weekend.
