The nominations for the 74th Golden Globes have been announced and this years contenders will battle it out at the award ceremony in 2017.

Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone's musical La La Land leads the way with seven nominations for Best Motion Picture, Best Actor and Best Actress to name a few.

The film is about Mia (Stone) an aspiring actress and Sebastian (Gosling) a dedicated jazz pianist whose relationship is put to the test as they begin to find fame.

Coming of age drama Moonlight - starring House of Cards' Mahershala Ali - comes in a close second with six with nominations.

In the TV categories British drama The Night Manager dominates with Olivia Colman and Tom Hiddleston both up for awards.

Sky's new sci-fi drama Westworld - starring Sir Anthony Hopkins - is up Best Television Series alongside The Crown, Game of Thrones, Stranger Things and This Is Us.

Last year Leonardo DiCaprio's tense survival drama The Revenant was awarded Best Drama and the Hollywood A lister also scooped the gong for Best Actor.

The 74th show will take place on January 8, 2017 and the annual ceremony has a reputation for being a major indicator for movies that will win big at the Oscars (February 26, 2017).
