The Mummy was a popular 90s family film loved by children and adults - but now it's had a remake and looks like it's going to be one of the major film releases of next summer.

Set in modern day London, instead of Egypt like the 1999 film, the story follows the havoc that is wreaked after a mummy princess returns to earth.

The 2 minute and 32 second trailer is narrated by Russell Crowe and begins with a terrifying crash involving a military aircraft.

The horrifying accident sees Tom Cruise's character plunging to his death but soon he is seen rising from the dead in a sterile morgue.

In the second half of the trailer viewers meet mummy Princess Ahmanet played by Star Trek Beyond actress Sofia Boutella.

Russell Crowe plays Dr Henry Jekyll a character who is part of a mysterious group called Prodigum - it is not yet clear if there's going to be any Hyde traits to him.

Although the remake boasts the same name as the original film starring Brendon Fraser and Rachel Weisz, the plot is vastly different.

The internet is swarming with rumours that should the film do well there will be two follow up movies.

The Mummy is set to be released in June 2017.
