Two golf clubs form part of the Public Arts Waymark for this part of the route that also includes a fabulous seat of ‘woods’

A golf course leads to busy roads at Cooper Bridge, before the route winds its way past Robin Hood’s grave in the Kirklees Hall estate, on a steady climb to the quiet solitude of Hartshead Moor, with its Bronte connections and stunning views across the region.

CROSS Bradley Road (A6107) between Bradley and Sheepridge and take Shepherds Thorn Lane ahead.

Turn right before Shepherds Thorn Farm on to a footpath through a small copse and enter Bradley Park golf course.

The path across the course is difficult to follow and is shown using a variety of posts.

Apart from standard waymark discs and red and white marker posts, look out for stylish wooden posts carved as golf clubs.

The clubs form part of the Public Arts Waymark for this part of the route that also includes a fabulous seat of ‘woods’ carved in wood.

From the entrance to the golf course follow the route to the first red and white post and then walk to the left of the small plantation.

Join the track and walk to a wooden club which marks where the path leaves the track.

Turn left through a copse to the next red and white post. The path circumvents a green, and a second club (underneath the pylon lines) marks the route through a plantation towards the M62.

Turn right and follow the perimeter fence of the course. The seat is on this part of the route. The path leaves the golf course via a flight of steps, turning right at the foot of the steps along an old track.

Here the path enters the housing estate and the route shown on the OS Explorer is confusing. Take the first tarmacked path on the left to the housing estate on Clifton Side.

Turn left on Park Lea and left again down Steep Lane. This is an old walled track that runs down towards the railway and canal.

At the bottom of Steep Lane turn right along Lower Quarry Road, crossing the railway bridge to the A62. Turn left crossing the Calder and Hebble Navigation canal, along Cooper Bridge Road to the roundabout.

Take the A62 right, passing the Dumb Steeple, to The Three Nuns pub.

Just past The Three Nuns turn left along a track, cross a field and join another track leading up the hill towards Hartshead. This land forms part of the Kirklees Estate. To the west Kirklees Hall and Home Farm can be seen among the trees.

Turn right where the track forks (this is Cross Hill Lane) and climb to the top of the hill between hawthorn and holly, before turning left to meet Hartshead Lane in the village.

Turn left and walk along the road passing (or stopping at) the Gray Ox pub. Keep straight ahead at the junction to St Peter’s Church.

Turn left after the church on to Ladywell Road and then right past Nanny Wood’s Cottage.

Turn left just before the road, up a tarmac driveway. Leave the track by a stone squeeze stile and follow the edge of the field, before turning left on to another track to the motorway.

Cross the motorway bridge and turn right. Where the track forks turn left along a holly-lined lane beside Willow Valley Golf Club. This is Green Lane.

At the bottom turn right into Dales Lane, leading to High Moor Lane. Turn left on to the A643 Walton Lane to complete this section of the Kirklees Way.
