THEY are described as one of the country’s most exciting contemporary bands and you can judge for yourself in Hepworth this weekend.

Tomorrow (March 20), Meltham-based folk trio Uiscedwr play the latest in a series of gigs at Hepworth Village Hall.

The trio, which was a big draw at last year’s Shepley Spring Festival, is fresh from a successful trip to Holland.

The band features Anna Esslemont on fiddle and vocals and Cormac Byrne on percussion.

Anna is from Wales and began playing the violin when she was six. She left the Royal Northern College of Music where she was studying classical violin after becoming fascinated by folk and world music.

It was while in Manchester that she met Cormac who is from County Waterford, Ireland and plays bodhrán, percussion and drums.

The pair formed Uiscedwr and won the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award.

The band is much in demand and in addition to album recording and touring, both founder members are busy with teaching commitments.

Today their repertoire takes its inspiration from musical on traditions from all over the British isles.

Spend an evening with Uiscedwr and travel with them around the world.

Start the journey at Hepworth at 8pm.
