SUCCESS breeds success. Well it does at Hepworth, where a pair of concerts held in the village hall in the summer were such a hit that more are to follow.

Paul Drury, the man behind this enterprising series, has booked seven more folk/acoustic concerts for the village hall.

The next is tonight and features Ruth Notman, a 19-year-old folk musician and multi-instrumentalist from Nottingham who already has two albums to her name.

Ruth, who was a finalist in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards two years ago, plays piano, guitar, harp and melodeon.

The music begins tonight at 8pm and there are booking details and news of more gigs on www.hepworthvillagehall. org.uk

But if you want to get at least the next date in your diary then it is October 9 when the guest at Hepworth will be Stephen Fearing, one of Canada’s most respected songwriters and musicians.

He has won the Canadian equivalent of the Grammy and is on tour in the UK while promoting his latest album,The Man who Married Music.

All seven of the concerts, including tonight’s, will feature a support act and Paul is using the slot wherever possible to give local youngsters a chance to showcase their talents.

That idea chimes well with the ethos of the concerts which are being organised primarily as village events with all proceeds going back to the village hall to support a very active community association.

Any folk fans from outside the village are of course welcome.
