Cuisine from around the world, traditional Yorkshire produce and tipples from real ale to champagne will fill St George's Square this weekend.

Huddersfield Food and Drink Festival returns on Thursday for its 15th year, promising delicious food, sweet treats, cookery demonstrations run by Jamie's Ministry of Food and kids' entertainment.

More than 100,000 people came to town to enjoy last year's festival — will you be heading down to sample some tasty grub and an al fresco pint?

Here's everything you need to know:

When is the festival?

This year's festival runs Thursday August 6 to Sunday August 9.

What's on the menu?

Everything from traditional Yorkshire pies and pasties, to Indian, Thai, Chinese, Malaysian and Caribbean fare. For the more adventurous palate there will be zebra burgers, kangaroo burgers and more from Exotic Meats, and sweet treats include donuts, ice cream, crepes, yoghurt, and cupcakes.

What are the opening times?

  • Thursday August 6 — 11am-8pm, last orders 7.30pm;
  • Friday August 7 — 10am-10pm, last orders 9.30pm — Festival at Dusk entertainment 6pm-10pm
  • Saturday August 8 — 10am-10pm, last orders 9.30pm — Festival at Dusk entertainment 6pm-10pm;
  • Sunday August 9 — 10.30am-4.30pm, last orders 4pm.

Will the roads be affected?

Some street closures are being brought in with Railway Street, Station Street and the top half of Northumberland Street all closed until the end of the festival.

There is access to the railway station but drivers are allowed only to pick up or drop off passengers and not to park.

What's happening in the Demo Kitchen?

This year's Demo Kitchen is run by Jamie's Ministry of Food, with chef head-to-heads, cookery demonstrations and lots of ideas to inspire you in the kitchen!

Who's playing Festival at Dusk?

Summer nights will be set to live music in St George’s Square as Festival at Dusk returns.

Hosted by Huddersfield Food and Drink Festival, a line-up of bands will entertain revellers enjoying the bars and food stalls on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening.

What's the Real Ale and Cocktail Trail?

The Real Ale and Cocktail Trail is already running across 18 town centre venues, and will continue until Sunday.

The taster event encourages drinkers to try featured real ales, ciders or cocktails at each of the trail venues, collecting stamps along the way.

If you visit more than 10 trail venues you'll receive a special engraved glass, which you can collect at the festival or at the sponsor venue, the King's Head!

Can I buy food and drink to take home?

Yes you can! As well as stalls serving up delicious food and drinks to devour there are then, there are also a lot of traders selling everything from posh cheese to Greek olives and confectionery and traditional sweets to flavour-infused oils.

There's also tipples to take home, including Demijohn flavoured liquors and Yorkshire Gin. Buy gifts for friends or family, or treat yourself to something special!
