Roll up, roll up for free ice cream!

An expanding ice cream parlour chain hits Huddersfield tomorrow (Friday) with a stunning offer for sweet-toothed customers.

Bradford-based Icestone Gelato opens its fifth – and best – store in John William Street at 11am – and the first 250 customers through the doors receive a free gelato scoop every day for the rest of June!

The family-run company, which opened its first store in 2013, has invested several hundred thousand pounds into fitting out the former Tony and Guy hair salon opposite McDonald’s.

A specialist designer was hired to give the interior a traditional yet modern look and no expense has been spared, right down to the monogrammed cutlery.

Icestone specialises in gelato – Italian ice cream – but is much more than an ice cream parlour.

It also serves gateaux, fruit ice, frozen yoghurt, hot cookie dough dessert, sundaes, crepes, and Belgian hot waffles. There are coffees, mocktails, milkshakes and smoothies.

And to celebrate the Huddersfield launch, the company has created two brand new flavours – Red Bull fruit ice and salted caramel gelato.

Marsh-based operations director Paul Morris said the chain had two stores in Bradford and others in Birmingham and Manchester and others were set to be opened before a franchise roll-out.

Paul, who also helps run Rawthorpe Amateur Boxing Club in Huddersfield, knows the town well and believes Huddersfield is the ideal place to kick-start the expansion.

“Huddersfield is quite an affluent and diverse place and we have secured one of the best locations in town,” he said. “Over the last 15 years the university has spent millions on its expansion and we wanted to reflect that investment.

“We will be catering for all customers, from elderly people who just want a coffee and cake to students and families.

“Customer service for us is paramount and we want to create a great experience every time.”

The Huddersfield store has 26 different gelato flavours – including Ferrer Roche, Strawberry Cheesecake, Chocolate Orange, Super Belgium Chocolate, Honeycomb Creamy Hazelnut and Blueberry Muffin – and customers can even make their own ice cream creation at the creation bar.

The gelato is made in the company’s own factory and all the gateaux, cheesecakes and cookie dough are made exclusively too.

The Huddersfield store will have up to 25 staff. They are all from Huddersfield and have spent the last eight weeks training in Bradford.

“This isn’t a gamble, we know it will be a success because we’re now in our third year,” said Paul.

“We’ve refined what we do and while others were sceptical three years ago they are now trying to jump on the bandwagon but they try to do it on the cheap. We don’t.

“Our store has the wow factor and our slogan is: ‘Nobody has to know’ which has several meanings. It’s like it’s a little bit naughty.”

The store will open seven days a week, 365 days a year, 9am to midnight.
