There’s nothing better than a chippy tea — but where can you find the best fish and chips in Huddersfield?
We asked Examiner readers to tell us their favourites then vote from a shortlist of 25 fish and chip shops from across our town.
More than 1,500 votes were cast — and now we can reveal the top 10 chippies in Huddersfield, as voted for by you.
The top spot was awarded to Blakeley’s Fish and Chips in Brighouse.
Owner Andrew Blakeley said: “We’re very pleased to be voted by Huddersfield Examiner readers as the best fish and chip shop in the Huddersfield area.
“All our fish is caught sustainably from Iceland and the north Atlantic.”

10. Jolly Fryer, Fartown
Wei Lun Tsoi said: “They are very tasty fish and chips and really deserve some recognition. I like to think myself a bit of a fish and chip connoisseur — having even had chance to have fish and chips at Rick Stein’s in Padstow.”

Cameron Boyd said: “The fish is lovely and crispy, the chips cooked in beef dripping and also the Chinese curry sauce is the best around. Best chippy in Huddersfield by far.”

David Wilson, a Huddersfield ex-pat living in Australia, said: “I’ve tried fish and chips all over the world but these are the best I think it’s the oil they use, in my younger days it was lard they tasted even better.
“I now live in Australia but the first thing I do when I come over for a holiday is hire a car at Manchester airport next stop is Hollowgate Fisheries.”
