Can you guess the most widely available type of pizza in the Huddersfield area?
Hint: it’s exactly what you’d expect.
Classic pizza lovers all over the area can rejoice in the knowledge that the margherita pizza is the most widely available in the area with no fewer than 97 pizzerias and takeaways offering topping according to data from Just Eat.
Second on the list were pepperoni pizzas, followed by meat feast pizzas in third.
Although this is the result you might expect, Huddersfield is actually unusual in having the margherita as the most widely available pizza.
Hawaiian pizzas came out on top cross the whole of England and Wales with margheritas in second and vegetarian toppings in third.
This pattern was observed throughout much of the country, however there were some interesting regional variations. For example, in the North East bolognese pizzas were the most popular in the Tyne and Wear area while in Merseyside, seafood toppings were the most widely available.
However, this doesn’t take into account the various different names that pizzas can operate under. If the cheese and tomato pizzas were added to the margherita tally then they would overtake the Hawaiian as the most widely available pizza type nationally.
Huddersfield’s pizza options were unusual in showing a preference for classic Italian names such as Al Funghi (5th), Pollo (8th) and Toscana (9th).
Trinity Mirror’s Data Unit extracted hundreds of thousands of pizzas from the Just Eat website to come up with this comprehensive list.
