BEWARE - the Land of the Giants is back.

No, it’s not a re-run of the quirky 1960s TV series.

It’s a unique exhibition being mounted at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park at West Bretton.

And that meant hard work for park staff as they prepared for the first UK museum exhibition by American artist KAWS.

They had to wrestle with giant body parts and heads and ensure they all fitted together as they should.

KAWS specialises in giant figures - some of them towering up to 10m tall.

The enormous sculptures have been put in place in the park and they needed specialist equipment and cranes, ahead of the official exhibition opening on February 6.

KAWS, the renowned American artist, is Brian Donnelly. His work has sparked global attention and includes painting, sculpture, printmaking and design.

Sculpture Park spokeswoman Kerry Chase said: “The exhibition, in the Longside Gallery and open air, features over 20 works.

“There are some truly commanding sculptures in bronze, fibreglass, aluminium and wood alongside large, bright canvases in acrylic paint.

“Some have been created especially for the exhibition.

“KAWS is considered one of the most relevant artists of his generation. His influential work engages people across the generations with contemporary art and especially opens popular culture to young and diverse audiences.”

He’s not short of admirers; one of his biggest fans is rap artist Kanye West.

The exhibition runs to June.
