IT’S a busy time for our local male voice choirs with many eyes fixed on the international festival in Cornwall in just a few weeks’ time that many of them will be attending.

Gledholt Male Voice Choir is limbering up for that competition with plenty of rehearsals plus a concert in Meltham this weekend.

The congregation at St Bartholomew’s Church in the village is delighted to welcome the male voice choir for a special fundraising concert on April 20.

The choir is directed by well-know local musician, singer and conductor Susan Wilkinson.

Susan sings in Huddersfield Choral Society and leads its highly successful choirs for young people.

Kim Kaye will be the accompanist for this concert and the choir will also be joined by super soloist Stephanie Ball (nee Helliwell) who will be singing some solo items.

The male voice choir will be singing a varied programme of songs and some solo items too.

The choir recently performed with the world famous Brighouse and Rastrick Band at their Gala Concert in Huddersfield Town Hall.

So with that and the Meltham concert under their belts, they should be in fine form to take on the opposition as they help represent Huddersfield and surrounding areas in Cornwall. We’ll be cheering on male voice choirs from Honley and Colne Valley too.

Tickets for the Meltham concert (7.30pm) are £6 on the door or in advance from Scotty’s Barbers in the village. All welcome!

Proceeds are for church funds.
