IT PROMISES to be a terrific addition to the dance programme at the Lawrence Batley Theatre.

A hip-hop company that will fill the main stage with break dance, house, boogaloo, popping and locking.

Meet Funkstylerz Dance in Life Of A B’Boy, a ground-breaking piece of dance theatre which if you didn’t know anything about hip-hop before then you will afterwards.

This innovative young company was formed four years ago by Rob Pountney, otherwise known as Chimp Chilla. Its four original members were Rob plus Mouse, Flexy and Carebear.

Today, the company has 15 performers, featuring dancers from across the world, including the UK, France, USA and Australia.

This latest piece, which you can see at the LBT on Thursday, November 29, is very much what Funkstylerz is all about. For B’Boy is the term used to refer to guys devoted to hip-hop culture.

You’ll see a mix of dance forms, quite a lot of what amounts to gymnastics, all bound together by a narrative which relates three highly personal life stories.

At its heart it spells out just how three performers were drawn to the hip-hop culture and how, within it, they managed to thrive.

It’s expected that the performers at LBT will include Chimp Chilla, Mouse and Steady. They will be sharing their stories in a piece created by Spearfish and Benji Reid alongside a live score by DJ G Kut.

Expect extraordinary performances and real electricity from a company some say are the country’s top B'Boy hip hop and funkstyle dance company.

Each of these highly specialised dancers is among the world’s best in their chosen dance styles.

As a team the dance styles that they specialise in include b’boying, popping, locking, robot, house, freestyle, old skool hip hop, new school and acrobatics.

See this high-octane show next Thursday from 8pm. Tickets from the box office on 01484 430528.
