AT LEAST one amateur dramatic company in the area is aiming to do its bit for Comic Relief.

Holmfirth-based Turn Again Theatre will be donating the rights for its latest production to the charity.

The award-winning group is about to start rehearsals for its summer production of Blackadder, which was co-written by Curtis with comedian/author Ben Elton.

“I contacted Richard Curtis and enquired whether we might be able to do the show,” said the group’s chairman, Lisa Kendall who is also directing the show.

“He came back to me (well, his secretary did) and said yes we could, if we donated the rights to Comic Relief.

“ So that’s what we are going to do.

“And during the show’s run at Holmfirth Civic Hall (May 29 to June 1) we’ll also collect on the door each night.

“So if you live locally and want to do your own bit for Comic Relief, why not come along and see Blackadder?”

The company will stage three favourite episodes from the popular BBC show, one each from series two (Elizabethan), three (Regency) and four (First World War).

The show features Steve Baker, who played Scrooge in Turn Again’s autumn production of A Christmas Carol last year, in the Blackadder title role.

Other key parts include Richard Skelton (Manuel in both of Turn Again’s sell-out runs of Fawlty Towers) as Baldrick and company regulars Oliver Constance as George, Neil Smith as Melchett and Neil Stacey as Percy/Darling.

Tickets will be available soon from Holmfirth Tourist Information.
