SUE Ridgard, secretary of a Lancashire-based charity, was impressed when she heard members of Honley Male Voice Choir singing at a Huddersfield pub.

The choir had gone to the Brown Cow near Scammonden, run by her son Mark, for a pint and bite to eat after singing at a Songs of Praise at Barkisland Parish Church.

That was 17 years ago. But Sue never forgot how much she had enjoyed the Honley men’s singing.

And now she has invited the choir to help her with a fund-raising event in Rochdale.

The choir will sing tomorrow (October 13) at the 600 seater Gracie Fields Theatre in aid of Rochdale Heartbeat, which raises money to support cardiac patients and their families at the Rochdale Infirmary and the Fairfield General Hospital.

The charity has raised more than £270,000 since it was formed nearly 25 years ago.

When Sue was given the job of organising a fund-raising concert in aid of the charity, she thought immediately of the Honley choir.

“Although it was a long time ago I remembered how much I had enjoyed listening to the choir members at the pub” said Sue.

”We decided we would hire a male voice choir for the concert and as far as I was concerned it had to be Honley.”

The Honley singers will be conduced by John Oldfield and accompanied by Michelle Sutcliffe.

The choir will be sharing the stage with the award winning Wardle Anderson brass band who were North West Area Champions in 2007,2008 and 2009 and will also be making their first appearance at the theatre.

The concert starts at 7.30pm.
