A TOUCH of the Harry Potters? That’s one way of looking at a Gilbert and Sullivan production which opens in Meltham next week.

Expect wizard singing and much more besides from Meltham Gilbert and Sullivan Society in its production of The Sorcerer which opens on Tuesday November 20.

The society hopes that the show, which runs for six performances at Meltham Parish Church Hall, will help people to appreciate the magic of Gilbert and Sullivan who together wrote 14 comic operas.

The Meltham G and S Society is joined this year by another grandson of the late Denis Holmes who was a founder member of the society in 1963. Jacob Glover will join the cast alongside his mother, Catherine and his brother, Ben who made his own debut with the company last year.

Jacob’s debut role will be as Hercules, assistant to the sorcerer himself, John Wellington Wells, played by society stalwart Gerald Tinson.

Paul Richmond is cast as Alexis with Elaine Clelland playing opposite him as Alise, the girl he is to marry.

The production is again in the hands of director Helen Bamforth with John Schofield as musical director.

The show runs nightly at 7.30pm with a Saturday matinee at 2.15pm. Tickets are £7 (with concessions) for performances on Tuesday, Wednesday and for the Saturday matinee.
