HUDDERSFIELD-born recorder player Jill Kemp is taking on the USA with her next tour.

Jill, an ex-Honley High and Greenhead College pupil, will tour the USA during April and May after winning the IBLA Grand Prize International competition in Italy last year, where she performed with 400 other musicians.

During this tour, Jill will make her Carnegie Hall debut in New York, as well performing in Virginia, Arkansas and North Dakota.

Jill is a professional recorder player and regularly gives recitals throughout Europe.

In 2007, she won the Royal Over-Seas League wind and brass competition – the first recorder player to do so in the competition’s 52 year history.

She has long been a winner – in 1996, she took the title of Kirklees Young Musician at the Mrs Sunderland Music Festival, aged just 16.

She is well-known as a guest artist with local choirs and instrumental groups.

Before she goes State-side, Jill will perform at Featherstone Library tomorrow from 7.30pm.

She will present her new programme, Enchanted, as part of the Ackworth Concert Society’s series of events.

Enchanted uses projected images, narrative and music to engage the audience. For tickets, contact 0845 601 8353 or www.jillkemp.com.
