It is the perfect pre-Christmas gift.

Music and words presented by a top quality musical ensemble and one of the area’s most talented actor/directors. And better still, it’s in aid of a charity.

Cantorelli, a group of eight singers from Calderdale and Kirklees, return to St Mary’s Church in Honley on Sunday, December 8 for an afternoon concert of charity carols and readings for Christmas.

The ensemble has been performing at St Mary’s for two years, most recently in October.

It sings a great variety of mainly  unaccompanied choral music from the 15th century to the present day.

The carols they will perform include some well-known as well as some not so well-known including A Spotless Rose by Herbert Howells, Hymn to the Virgin by Benjamin Britten and The Lamb by Sir John Tavener and traditional carols including Lute Book Lullaby, Gaudete, I wonder as I wander and the Boar's Head Carol.

The concert will also end with a traditional carol for everyone to enjoy!

Cantorelli is joined by James Sykes who has selected readings from Christmas literature.

James is a well-known local actor and director of Jimbo Productions who recently directed Faversham, a new play by Stan Sharpe, at the Lawrence Batley Theatre, Huddersfield.

He is also the chairman of Mikron Theatre Company based in Marsden.

The concert is at 3.30pm and is free. A collection will be taken for local charities including Simon on the Streets which works across Huddersfield, Leeds and Bradford supporting individuals with complex needs with experiences of rough sleeping and homelessness.

The charity currently supports around 100 individuals in Huddersfield alongside daily street outreach work helped by volunteers.
