With Valentine’s Day just around the corner what better theme for a concert  than romance?

And that’s what’s in store in Huddersfield next week when talented young musicians from across  Kirklees pack the town hall  for a major charity concert.

Tuesday’s concert  (February 11) will raise  money for the Mayor’s  Charity which is  One  Community, a non-profit  organisation  created to  generate financial  support  for Kirklees-based  community activities.

The concert has brought  together  performers from a  wide range of musical  organisations from across the area.

Young musicians from  the  Kirklees Youth Symphony Orchestra will feature in the concert alongside Dewsbury/Mirfield Music Centre Swing Band and   Huddersfield’s Sikh Youth  Dhol Academy.

There will also be a massed  choir made up of children  from Norristhorpe,  Battyeford, St Patrick’s,  Netherthong and Heckmondwike Primary  schools, and Scissett  Middle School.

This feast of romantic  music will include items  from hit musicals such as  Les Miserables plus songs  by Take That and The Beatles.

Members of the Huddersfield Sikh Temple Dhol Academy and the Kirklees Youth Symphony Orchestra are pictured in their joint piece: Come What May from Moulin Rouge which they will play at a concert in Huddersfield Town Hall.

The  youngsters will also  play classical music and  that is where the renowned Town Hall organ becomes the focus of the event.

Greenhead College student,  Sam Barber will  play the last movement of  Saint-Saens’ organ  symphony. The theme is known to many as the  theme from the movie,  Babe.

Thom Meredith, Principal,  Kirklees Music School said:  “We are all delighted to have been given the  opportunity to support the  Mayor’s Charity.

“The programme for the evening provides something for everyone from Tchaikovsky to Van  Morrison.

“The young people have put such a lot of work into  preparing for this event, it  would be great to see  the  Town Hall full,” he added.
