IT’S one of the most popular events in the lunchtime season, a chance to hear talented young musicians in a concert alongside Gordon Stewart.

The Girl Choristers of Wakefield Cathedral and the Kirklees Music School String Quartet will all join Gordon, Kirklees Borough organist, on stage at Huddersfield Town Hall on Monday for festive music and knowing Gordon, a few laughs.

The choristers have sung in this celebratory Christmas concert for the past three years and Gordon is delighted these talented young musicians are back.

“It is always good to welcome the girls’ choir to the town hall,” said Gordon.

“They sing beautifully of course, and their conductor Tom Moore always puts together a programme mixing the traditional and the new.”

This year they will be joined by a young string quartet Just Four Strings, Abigail Askew, Alex Berry, Tom Broadbent and Jordan Dobbins.

They met as members of the Kirklees Youth Symphony Orchestra and have played at events as varied as this year’s Examiner Community Awards 2012 and the Doctors’ Ball.

For this concert they are including music from the Chronicles of Narnia and fun music for Christmas.

Gordon Stewart will be accompanying the choir and playing Dance Variations on Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Noels by Dacquin and there will be carols for all to sing.

Tickets from Kirklees Booking Offices, on 01484 223200 or you can pay on the door. Lunches will be available in the Old Court Room from 11.30am.
