WHAT better way for music fans to find out what is in store next season than in the company of some of the best musicians in town?

That’s what Huddersfield Choral Society is offering its supporters next week. And it promises to be an unmissable evening.

It’s a first for the society but one that could turn out to be an annual event.

The Choral kicked off its 2012-2013 season with two high profile concerts at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

First came the Berlioz Requiem at the BBC Proms swiftly followed by a return trip to the capital to sing in a second Proms event, the 70th anniversary celebrations of Desert Island Discs.

Then came a major season on home ground with a string of highly successful concerts in Huddersfield Town Hall.

The singers have also slotted in a triumphant trip to sing in Valladolid in Spain. And they are not finished yet.

Ladies from the choir will sing in two performances of Holst’s The Planets this summer with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. One of them is in the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, the other in Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall.

There’s not much of an off season for anyone in the Choral. There may be a short break in rehearsals during the summer but the work goes on.

The Choral’s team of officers continues to work behind the scenes, fine tuning what is now in place for the next round of big concerts for the 2013-2014 season. And looking beyond to what is to come still further into the future.

Musicians and singers take bookings way into the future so shaping what the Choral will sing and who with is a crucial and expert process.

And the Choral wants to share what it has in store with its supporters. To explain it all, they are bringing together two musical names who will be well known to any music fan.

Who better to talk about what lies ahead in the coming months than the Choral’s Conductor Laureate, Martyn Brabbins, and Chorus Master, Joseph Cullen.

Putting these two together is a master stroke. What they don’t know about the season’s programme you don’t need to know either!

They will talk about the pieces that have been included in the new season, about the composers and their history. Then you’ll get to hear snippets of what’s in store from the choral’s own singers.

It will be an evening among friends, with a glass of wine if you fancy one and great music to make those months ahead seem all the more exciting.

The event is at Huddersfield Town Hall on June 7 at 7.30pm and Choral supporters intending to attend should contact Jane Sargent in advance on 01484 485763.
