HE’S one of the country’s best known actors and he’s a big supporter of Huddersfield Philharmonic Orchestra.

Robert Powell returns to Huddersfield on Sunday afternoon to be reunited on stage with the orchestra.

Join them for an afternoon at the movies in a concert they’ve dubbed Robert Powell’s Movie Music Spectacular.

It is three years since Robert last appeared on stage with the orchestra as narrator in a performance of Peter and the Wolf.

For Sunday’s afternoon concert timed at 3pm to attract a family audience, the orchestra has chosen some of the best known songs from the world of movies and musical films.

Settle down for the afternoon with familiar music from Gone With The Wind, Pirates of the Caribbean, James Bond, Harry Potter and Thunderbirds.

And there will be some of the great tunes from musical favourites such as The Wizard of Oz, West Side Story, My Fair Lady and The Sound of Music.

The orchestra will be conducted by Lawrence Killian, whose daughter Sarah is one of the soloists alongside Adam Youssefbeygi.

As for the orchestra’s Powell connection, look no further than orchestra secretary Chris Leyland who was a pupil at the same Manchester school as Robert. The two have kept in touch via class reunions.

“It will be a great pleasure to work with Robert again,” said Chris.

“He will add his own unique sparkling contributions to the event and we are all looking forward to what promises to be a really fun afternoon for all the family.”
