HUDDERSFIELD’S dynamic Eddie Ruhier rides into town this weekend for the first of this year's organ concerts at the Rex, Elland.

But the swift change from a crash helmet and the controls of his 1200cc motorbike to the console and keyboard of the Rex’s theatre organ should present no problem to Eddie who began his musical training years before qualifying as a motor cycle instructor.

Eddie was five when he took up music and was still at school when he started playing for dances at RAF stations in Lincolnshire.

He later trained as an ice-dance organist at Streatham, London, and spent 20 years at the Silver Blades, Birmingham.

Eddie has also played summer seasons and for cruises on Cunard’s Countess, Princess and the QE2.

Since moving to Huddersfield, Eddie has played regularly at the Bradford Ice rink and appears frequently on the concert circuit. He recently recorded a CD called Portable Hammond and is working on a second.

Sunday’s concert (January 16) starts at 2.30pm and lasts for approximately two hours.

Admission is £4.10 and refreshments are served in the interval. The programme includes a short film novelty.
