SKELMANTHORPE Band kicks off a busy weekend with a concert on home ground.

Hear the band in action tomorrow (April 25) at St Aidan’s Church in the musicians’ home village of Skelmanthorpe.

Then on Sunday, head for Holmfirth to support them as they compete at the Holmfirth contest in Holmfirth Civic Hall.

Tomorrow’s concert begins at 7.30pm and tickets are £6.00 (£3.00 for under 12’s) from Thinking of You in Skelmanthorpe.

The band will be led by John Roberts.

But there will be no late night for the musicians as they have a date in the Holme Valley on Sunday to compete in the Holmfirth brass contest.

The band is also rehearsing for the Senior Cup in Blackpool in early May.

Its diary is already busy with future events including a repeat in June of last year’s hugely successful Big Band night in Shelley Village Hall.

There will also be a Picnic In the Park event behind Shelley Hall on Saturday, July 4.

For more information on any of the events email the concert secretary, Graham Crossland at or call 01484 864539.

Brighouse and Rastrick Band will hold its annual meeting on Tuesday May 5 at its bandroom in Finkil Street. The business begins at 9pm.
