A BRASS band based in Brighouse has landed a place in a major European competition.

The Yorkshire Co-op Brass Band has been invited to represent England in a major competition in Drachten, Holland, this June.

Previously the brass band has represented its country in New Zealand and France with great success and aims to fly the flag with great results in Holland.

But it needs to find the money to book the trip so is holding a series of concerts and fundraisers, starting tomorrow.

Tabby Clegg, the band’s manager, said: “It’s a great honour to be invited and the band would love to accept immediately. However, the invitation has come at short notice and as we are currently raising funds to set up and maintain our new Brass Education Scheme, we now have an extra target of £7,000 to reach by March to guarantee that we can successfully accept the invitation.

“We need to secure funding very quickly but if we don’t think it will be manageable financially we will have to sadly decline the wonderful opportunity.”

Tomorrow the band is hosting a concert at Brighouse Civic Hall.

Tickets are £5 and available by calling 01422 200003 or from the Harrison Lord Gallery, Bradford Road, Brighouse.
