COLNE Valley Male Voice Choir has a lot to smile about.

Last week, its members sped round 18 schools in the area, sharing their ideas for Colne Valley Boys, a new choir that aims to get more children singing.

The choir held a launch meeting this week at Slaithwaite Conservative Club which was attended by 24 boys and their parents and teachers.

It is a first step towards a new choir with rehearsals due to start next month at the same venue.

“During the school visits we sang to about 2,000 children,” said the choir’s Matt Houston.

“The choir enjoyed it as much as the children seemed to.”

“At the launch meeting, we talked a bit about the choir and then had a sing song with the children and the mums and dads.

“One of the things that we are keen to point out is that though the new choir will be called Colne Valley Boys, it won’t be just for children from the valley.

“The senior choir has members from other parts of the area. We even have one member who travels to sing with us from Doncaster.”

The new choir will be administered by Matt’s wife, Linda and for more details contact her on: 01484 658188 or by email to mattwhouston@hotmail.com

And for any dads or grandads who are thinking of taking up singing, the senior choir would be delighted to have new members.
