WHY not join a choir? There’s more to it than just singing.

That’s the promise from New Mill Male Voice Choir which is looking for new members to join it.

This year, the choir has sung to audiences in York Minster, Huddersfield Town Hall and the Theatre Royal, Wakefield.

Over 20 years, it has progressed from a group of friends happy to sing in a pub to a prize winning choir capable of attracting artists such as Sir Willard White and Julian Lloyd Webber to its concerts.

Tomorrow, international trumpet virtuoso and Classic BRIT Female Artist of the Year, Alison Balsom, will be its guest in Huddersfield Town Hall.

Exciting prospects then for anyone interested in singing.

But New Mill MVC offers much more than just an opportunity to sing!

As Steve Flynn, the choir’s publicity officer said: “Many new members have discovered a new social life after they came along to a rehearsal.

“They swapped the “death zone” of the armchair for a full social calendar and new friends.

“For example, earlier this year the choir competed in the BBC2 quiz show Eggheads, an episode due to be aired shortly.

“Our members have ridden in the Holme Valley Mountain Bike Challenge, raising hundreds of pounds for charity, visited Holmfirth’s very own vineyard for a wine tasting event, enjoyed bowls nights and a weekend workshop in Scarborough.

“So come along to New Mill Club on Tuesday October 11 at 7.30pm for our open rehearsal. It could change your life!”
