IF YOU like the mighty sound of brass coupled with a real feel of nostalgia then a concert at Huddersfield Town Hall next month is one for you.
Tickets go on sale in Brighouse tomorrow for Salute to Heroes! the latest in the massed bands series of concerts hosted by Brighouse and Rastrick Band.
And what more appropriate for an evening with more than a whiff of wartime nostalgia than the presence of Royal Marines man Lt Col Chris Davis, who will conduct Brighouse and Rastrick?
Guest band will be Scottish Co-op, current Scottish Champions.
It is 15 years since they last appeared at this event, when they crossed the border in their famous former name of CWS Glasgow.
They are relishing a return to the heartland of brass music-making and particularly to playing in the renowned acoustic of Huddersfield Town Hall.
Music with a military slant was always on the cards, once Chris Davis accepted the engagement, and after much talk between Brighouse and Portsmouth, the ‘Salute….’ theme was agreed.
Rousing marches will certainly feature alongside the ever popular Light Cavalry overture as well as tributes to the likes of Glen Miller.
Famous film scores will also be heard, penned by icons from different eras, from Vaughan Williams to John Williams including the latter’s music from the film, Saving Private Ryan.
Tickets first go on general sale tomorrow at Fawcett Stationers, Commercial Street, Brighouse (10am to noon) and from September 9 at Kirklees Council. Telephone enquiries 01484 223200.
