SOME of the area’s best known singers kick-off a 1940s wartime weekend in Meltham.

Meltham Memories hosts a concert in the village hall on July 13 which features singers Norman Mellor, Richard Cook and Diane Robinson from Reflections plus Craig Ball and Katie Spitfire.

The concert is at 7pm and opens a weekend of events in the village.

On Saturday, July 14, there will be vintage craft fayres, a Battle of Britain fly-past, a military vehicle parade, period dress and vehicles, living history groups, Word War Two re-enactors and much more.

Afternoon tea will be served in the church hall with entertainment for just £1.00.

This well supported community event has been running for a number of years.

This year, its Saturday night event sees The Palm Court Dance Orchestra with Natasha Harper providing the music for a period dance in the village hall.

Tickets are £15.00.

The chosen charity is as always Help for Heroes

A church service will be held at St Bartholomew’s Church on the Sunday morning. Following this fantastic community weekend on Friday July 20 there will be a night with the world-renowned ‘Swing Commanders’ in Meltham Village Hall.

The organisers have invited everyone along to the event and say that people are encouraged to wear 1940s clothing.
