GORDON Stewart hadn’t expected to be on concert duty in Huddersfield Town Hall on Monday.

But that is exactly where Dr Stewart will be on Monday lunchtime when he plays a concert that should have been given by Peter King who is unfortunately unable to be in Huddersfield due to family illness.

Dr Stewart will be playing Alan Spedding’s Variation on Ave Maris Stella for the first time at Huddersfield Town Hall.

And just to wrack up the tension a little more, the man himself, Dr Spedding will be in the audience.

“Filling in as I am for Dr King, I checked through the season’s programmes to see if any major organ composers were missing,” said Dr Stewart.

“ I was surprised to find that neither Howells nor Widor appeared anywhere, so they both appear in Monday’s programme..”

Concertgoers will now hear music by Bach, Buxtehude, Böhm, Spedding, Howells, Derek Bourgeois and Widor

Tickets are £4 (£3 concessions) and can be booked at Kirklees Booking Offices, by calling 01484 223200 or you can simply pay on the door.

Lunches will be available in the Old Court Room from noon. The concert begins at 1pm.
