HEPWORTH Band has a new musical director.

And Stig Mærsk, who is from Copenhagen in Denmark, will conduct the band for the first time in concert this weekend.

Stig was until recently resident conductor with the Concord brass band.

He had previously worked with Svogerslev Blæsernes band and Aarhus band.

He studied trumpet at the Royal Academy in Jutland before working as a professional freelance trumpet player with The Aarhus Symphony Orchestra, Slesvig Military band, and the Royal Guards in Copenhagen.

Stig was invited to work with the Hepworth band earlier this year, preparing the band for its performance at the British Open Championships and the band is delighted that he has now accepted the position of resident Musical Director.

Stig makes his debut concert appearance with the band tomorrow at a concert in Wakefield.

He will conduct the band at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School in the city for a Brass and Voices at QEGS with Consort Voices, Mantabile and soloists from the Wakefield Grammar Schools Foundation.

Doubtless we will be seeing more of this new young conductor with one of our top local bands.
