HONLEY Male Voice Choir‘s new musical director Keith Roberts ensured choir and audience had a great night at the annual Concert On The Hill at Salendine Nook.

And if that’s a taste of what’s to come from the choir then there couldn’t be a better time to join them. The choir which in addition to Keith, has a new accompanist, Sue Ogden, is busy preparing for its 75th anniversary in 2011.

The choir will mark its milestone year with the slogan Action 75 and will try and match that by upping its number of singers from the present 60 to 75.

Two open evenings are being held at the Honley Nursery and Infant School where the choir hold their rehearsals. The first is on Tuesday with a second next Friday both at 7.45 pm.

Here is your chance to find out if the singing and camaraderie of the choir are for you.

“You don’t have to be able to read music,” said chairman Norman Mellor. “Most people can sing but they are shy of joining a choir because they don’t think they are good enough. Why not come along and find out?”

Choir member Brian Winterbottom, who is chairing the special sub-committee, said: “We are planning a lot of events, including a special concert at the Town Hall and an overseas trip, so now would be a great time to join the choir.”
