A DAY of music-making in Huddersfield earlier this year has raised an astonishing £2,750 and will go towards funding music therapy and education projects for children and adults across the UK.

A delighted Raj Beadle, chairman of Gledholt Male Voice Choir, went to a champagne reception to present the fund-raising cheque to singer Hayley Westenra, Classic FM Music Makers' first ambassador.

The choir raised the money for Classic FM Music Makers with a music festival in Huddersfield in May which brought together a mix of musicians performing for the community which was very much in tune with what the work of Music Makers is all about.

The men took centre stage in a gala concert at Huddersfield Town Hall on May 10 alongside their guests, the Huddersfield Choral Society Young Voices under the direction of Susan Wilkinson and the musicians of Kirklees Youth Symphony Orchestra, directed by Thom Meredith.

But earlier, there was a series of music-making events throughout the day in five different venues around the town centre.

The money was raised through a combination of collections throughout the festival, ticket sales for the gala concert, as well as an evening dinner.
