IT’S a concert which will stir memories and emotions.

Two male voice choirs will sing in a Holme Valley church in a concert which will further cement the bonds between them.

Honley Male Voice Choir will be joined at St Mary’s Church in Honley on Wednesday, June 16, by the 50-strong Chess Valley choir.

The Buckinghamshire choir was founded in 1993 by two singers who had moved to the Chesham area, leaving behind their friends in two different male voice choirs.

One of them was Honley’s former concert secretary Ken Barrow who moved with his wife, Doris, to be near family.

The other was Geoff Faulkner who had moved to Buckinghamshire from Hampshire.

Together they founded the Chess Valley Male Voice Choir and Ken became president.

Sadly Ken died the following year but his colleagues from Honley made the trip to Chesham to sing with the Chess Valley men at a fundraising concert in his memory.

Those bonds have remained over the years and this month’s concert sees the two groups of singers together again.

The Chess Valley Choir is conducted by David Cooke and accompanied by his wife, Helen.

The choir sings a mix of traditional male voice music, folks songs and opera.

The singers appear regularly at concerts in Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire and have been on concert tours to Prague, Bruges, Bensheim and Krakow.

As for Ken’s friend Geoff, he now lives in Dorset and is still singing – with the Casterbridge Male Voice choir in Dorchester.

The concert starts at 7pm and tickets are £6 from Honley choir members or from Tony Sharpe on 01484 603161.
