PAUL McCulloch of Wallasey plays Sunday’s monthly concert at the Rex in Elland.

Paul used to have to find time for his music between his job as a joiner and builder. But since he turned professional he has found himself playing the electronic organ in hotels and restaurants as well as dates such as the one in Elland.

Like many successful musicians, Paul began to play as a youngster but opted to go straight to the organ console rather than follow the usual route via the piano.

When he was nine, Paul became a pupil of Ian Hamilton, the well-known organist of the Paramount and Granada cinema circuits.

When he was 16, Paul won the award for Young Northern Theatre Organist of the year at the 3Js, Gomersal, and has since played at the Bluecoat School, Oldham, the Odeon Leicester Square and many other venues.

Sunday’s concert starts at 2.30pm. Admission is £4.10. The programme includes a short film novelty.
