Q: IT is fair to say that the last few years have gone a little crazy for you all. I remember years ago putting you on at The Parish in Huddersfield for your Download festival warm-up. Since that time things just have got bigger and crazier. Touring the world, supporting bands like Muse and now main stage at Leeds festival. Do you ever stop and look around and just think woah?

A: “At the moment it just seems each and every show we play is getting bigger and better and you do stop from time to time and just think ‘Jesus Christ, is this real?’ You don’t forget doing the older shows like The Parish one. You always remember those steps but it’s kind of amazing to literally see it grow and progress before your eyes. I think this main stage slot at Leeds Fest will be the biggest one to date and it is just.... weird.’’

Q: This won’t be your first time playing Leeds festival but it will be your first time on the main stage. With this kind of being your stomping ground, how does that feel?

A: “Last year we got to play twice in one day over two stages. The year before that we were on the ‘Introducing’ stage. It’s a sign of genuine progression. We have literally gone up a stage each and every year. This year is amazing for us.”

Q: Is Leeds a festival you headed to quite a bit in the past?

A: “I think I’d been personally three times just as a punter before we actually played it. I remember playing last year and we literally finished our second set, piled off stage and ran to watch Die Antwoord and had our minds completely blown. The festival is always amazing; there is always so much happening and just so many amazing bands.”

Q: You are well renowned for your intense live shows. Do you head into festival slots the same way you would any other gig or do you go in with a different mindset?

A: “It’s always a bit different than doing your own headline show. We have just come off the back of playing two intimate headliners, one in Brighton and one in Oxford. Both were amazing but on a gig like that you instantly have a sense of ‘let’s just do this’. It’s our show and the crowd are there to see you. When it comes to a festival, we still perform the same way but your mindset is just a little different. The vibe at a festival is different anyway. It’s a bit more chilled. Everything is there so you can just focus on the performance.”

Q: You will be playing in front of a lot of your fanbase at the festival but also a lot of people who may have never seen or heard of you all before. Will you be changing your set or just go in, cause mayhem and leave?

A: “Most of the time it kind of goes on how you feel at that moment. We will be focusing on our album and the tracks off that. We do have some new tunes but we can’t play them live just yet. We haven’t recorded them or anything so it would be a little pointless to showcase them at this point. There is plenty of songs here though and enough to hit them with.”

Q: What can we expect in the coming year from Marmozets?

A: “We have commitments on the touring we still have booked but then after that we will be cracking on with writing the new record. We are about halfway through maybe, but we are just all so excited to be writing new music. You do a big spell of touring and you start getting eager about writing and then you start writing and you want to gig and show them off. We are just so happy with what we are writing. We are much cooler with it at this point than we were when writing the first record.”
