Here's the ultimate guide to live music venues in Huddersfield:
Bates Mill, Milford Street
This massive two floor space has brought Huddersfield some of its biggest ever nights thanks to club night After Party, such as DJs Armand Van Helden, Groove Armada and Annie Mac.
It is still up for hire and is used Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival (HCMF) and other promoters, who put on sporadic events.
Boy and Barrel, Beast Market
Fancy a weekend inside? Head here for live music with an upbeat atmosphere from 3.30pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Those wanting to test their own voices can join it at it's regular karaoke nights.
Blue Rooms and Byram Arcade, Westgate
Blue Rooms owner Bex Tyas is at the front of a campaign to bring more live music to the atmospheric location.
Dozens of events,club nights and more are expected to go ahead this year.
Coffeevolution, Church Street
Independent coffee house by day, host to intimate and vibrant gigs embracing everything from electronica to klezmer by night. Keep an eye on the Facebook page for upcoming events. A creative afternoon featuring live music is soon to be launched on the first Saturday of every month.
Crowdpleaser, former Zetland pub, Queensgate
Vintage shop by day and venue by night hoping to host crowd-funded live acts from Huddersfield, around the country and even further. Regular club nights are also in the process of being set up, with Junglism already confirmed.
Barrington Douglas's venture is now offering weekly jazz nights every Thursday with players taking influence from across the world.
The Grove, Spring Grove Street
Not just boasting the biggest hand pull ale selection in town, The Grove is home to dozens of genre-crossing gigs. The Irish music session is on Thursdays, with guitarist Tom Beaumont each Tuesday. First Sundays see the Jazz Dawgs and early 20th century pair Shabbycats are every third Sunday.
Head of Steam, St George's Square
This station side bar plays host to a weekly Wednesday jazz night with different acts.
Herbert’s Bar, Cross Church Street
Musicians can take to the stage at its weekly open mic acoustic session on Thursdays and club nights on Saturdays.
Irish Centre, Fitzwillliam Street
Bands and solo acts take to the stage in this lively venue regularly.
The Junction, Westbourne Road, Marsh
Gigs take place here occasionally, while every last Sunday of the month an open mic is held from 6pm. Please note, this pub is currently undergoing renovation.
The Keys, Byram Street
Another hangout for jazz fans. Musicians perform on the first Saturday of most months and for other special events.
Kings Head, St George's Square
Expect lively bands from around the area every Sunday afternoon to get you dancing off any hangovers.
Lawrence Batley Theatre, Queen Street
The venue's Syngenta Cellar comes alive with live evening music, especially that from the national and international folk scene.

Formerly Little Buddha Bar, urban, reggae and rock gigs regularly get the party going here.
The Parish, Kirkgate
This lively venue is renowned as the go-to hub for off the wall rock gigs. But it also showcases lots of local acts spanning across most genres, including folk, slam poetry and a monthly jazz night.
Phipps Hall, Arts Building, Queensgate
There are great acoustics in this university venue, which occasionally hosts public performances. Public Image Limited bassist Jah Wobble is amongst those who has recently performed here, along with HCMF acts.
Picturedrome, Market Street, Holmfirth
Opened in 1913 as the Holme Valley Theatre, the Picturedrome is a Holmfirth institution and hosts both cinema screenings and live music gigs. The venue hosts open mic nights, performances by tribute bands and more — visit picturedrome.net for listings.
Picturehouse, Zetland Street
A popular sports fan haunt, an open mic draws crowds every Monday from 8pm. It is also used for other late night DJ events.
Queenie's Coffee Shop, Queen Street
Its Coffee House nights celebrate acoustic music and are run through Lawrence Batley Theatre. Next ones to take place are on March 7 and May 9, both Mondays, from 7. to 9pm.
Rat and Ratchet, Chapel Hill
Home to two well-attended monthly music events. Huddersfield Jazz Guitar Society meet during the evening of the first Tuesday of the month, followed by the Sunday acoustic sessions every first weekend.
Rock Cafe, Ramsden Street
Hosts occasional gigs featuring local acts.
Lively bar with occasional live acts.
Sportsman, St John's Road
Bands regularly play the popular Sportsman pub, which also hosts Motown and Northern Soul specials, poker leagues, quizzes and Meet the Brewer sessions. Find them on Facebook.
St Patrick Catholic Club, Trinity Street
The place to be for Huddersfield Carnival’s after party, it is also used by other visiting acts. Regular live music nights take place every Sunday in the downstairs games room.
St Paul’s Hall, Queensgate
A 400 seat concert venue that hosts Huddersfield Music Society monthly concerts, HCMF gigs and more in the University of Huddersfield’s Queensgate campus.
Vinyl Tap, John William Street
It is a heaven for music fans, especially vinyl lovers.
But it's expansive basement is also a popular spot to catch some of the best up and coming bands who play at its regular Saturday afternoon gigs or during town festivals.

Live bands every Sunday from 6.30pm.
Tokyo, Queen Street
Tokyo hosted some big names last year, including Example and Furious Five. It also hosts regular club nights and special events for students. Its Facebook page can be found here.

Home to monthly Saturday night Marsh Blues Club. Around three acts from around the UK perform.
Wood Street Bar, Wood Street
Under new management, it offers the chance to see great local and other acts in an intimate setting. Acoustic mic nights are every Thursday.
