She found fame after appearing on Kove's summer tune Way We Are and scored a number one in the UK RnB chart with her debut single Kisses for Breakfast in July.

Now 21-year-old Melissa Steel, of Bradford, has been nominated for a MOBO award.

The chart topper has been shortlisted in the Bets Newcomer category, alongside rising stars including Ella Eyre, Jess Gwynn and Mnek.

Melissa attended Tong School with One Direction star Zayn Malik, and the pair used to send each other songs they'd sung over MSN Messenger.

The MOBO Awards have returned after a five year hiatus, marking the event's 19th anniversary.

The awards will be held at the SSE Arena, Wembley, on October 22, and will be broadcast on ITV2.

Past MOBO winners include Destiny's Child, Justin Timberlake, Kanye West, Dizzee Rascal, Jason Derulo and Jessie J.
