HUDDERSFIELD-based Vocal Expressions teamed up with another choir for a concert in the town.

The event at St Paul’s Hall also featured the highly-acclaimed Reading Phoenix Choir.

The Phoenix singers, conducted by David Crown, had dropped in to Huddersfield on their way to perform at St. Peter’s School in York, and York Minster on the following day.

Jan Eastwood from Vocal Expressions said: “Phoenix surpassed everything read about them.

“They looked magnificent and sounded magnificent.’’

An innovation in Vocal Expressions concerts was that their new musical director, Michael Howell, played his own composition on the St Paul’s organ and in the second half of the programme, Reading’s Christopher Enston also played the organ.

The compère for the evening, Graham Dawson, commented on the excellence of both choirs and thanked the Deputy Mayor of Kirklees, Clr Eric Firth, for attending.
