AN ACCLAIMED theatre company from South Africa will perform in Huddersfield next month.

K-CAP theatre from Durban, will bring a cast of 25 actors, singers and dancers to the Town Hall to stage a musical, Madame President.

The show, on July 26, is in aid of Hillhouse Community Resource Centre.

For the past five years, the Kwa-Zulu Natal-based K-CAP has been touring its original plays across South Africa, United States, Europe and Asia.

They will be performing in Leeds, Sheffield, Huddersfield and Nottingham this summer.

Madame President was written by Edmund Mhlongo who also directs.

Musical direction and music is by Linda Ngcwensa, leader of gospel group, Avante. Choreography is by Male Khumalo.

Madame President follows the story of a young woman whose father feels she is a bad omen as he had only produced sons up until then.

He resolves to have her killed so that she can be “married back to the ancestors” and thereby remove the curse.

But her mother sends the child to her husband’s brother for safe keeping and predicts that she will, one day, be president.

K-CAP Theatre Company is also dedicated to theatre development and the advancement of youth performing artists.

The company is presented in Huddersfield by Kirklees’ social enterprise InterComm.

The performance is at Huddersfield Town Hall on July 26 at 7pm.
