IT’S a night for good music and plenty of flag-waving.

And it is usually a sell out night at the Lawrence Batley Theatre.

Young singers and musicians will pack the stage in the theatre’s main house on November 18 for a celebratory performance of traditional Proms style orchestral music.

Those taking part include the Kirklees Youth Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Thom Meredith and Moorlands Primary School Choir, conducted by Louise Adams.

They will be joined by the Colne Valley’s Unity Voices, a group of more than 20 singers from Marsden who sing many styles of music, specialising in tribal and ethnic sounds.

They sing a capella or are accompanied by the group’s musicians who play a range of instruments including acoustic and bass guitar, keyboard and violin.

Mezzo soprano Judith Sims will be the soloist accompanied by Valerie Purkiss.

The concert will be compered by Pat France who has coordinated the show.

Their programme will include all those flag-waving favourites with selections from the British Sea Songs, Jerusalem, Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory plus a variety of other songs and instrumental music.

Proceeds from this now annual event organised by the Friends of the LBT will go to the theatre.

The music starts at 7.30pm and tickets are available from the LBT box office on 01484 430528.
