LEARN and sing the songs of protest, past and present with a leading folk musician.

That’s what’s on offer on Thursday (July 12) as part of the Lawrence Batley Theatre’s year-long series of events to mark the bicentenary of the Luddite Uprisings in West Yorkshire.

The issues and themes surrounding the story have long inspired artists, historians, academics, musicians and still resonate today.

During the year, Uprising will bring various events to Huddersfield to mark the occasion.

Pete Coe is a professional folk musician and lecturer in folk music at Huddersfield University. He will lead a singing workshop called Singing Through The Hard Times at The Hub, Riley Lane, Kirkburton.

The workshop takes its title from the song of the same name.

Songs will be taught by ear and you don’t need any previous singing experience to join in.

Pete Coe has beenŠrecording and playingŠat concerts, home and abroad for over 40 years. He’s referred to by some as a “one-man folk industry” and it is easy to see why as he is a musician with a formidable range of talents.

This then, is a rare opportunity to learn and perform songs with expert guidance from a leading folk musician.

Tickets are £3, which includes refreshments, and the workshop runs from 2.00pm - 4.00pm.
